Do you want to build inclusive, representative collections and services in your library? One tool to help guide this analysis is a diversity audit. In this course, participants will investigate the role diversity audits play in libraries of all types. Participants will understand the origins of diversity audits, their current usages, and challenges and benefits to utilizing them. Assignments will involve creating your own diversity audit that is unique to your library space and assesses a specific collection or category of interest.

- Understand why diversity audits are important to all types of library collections
- Apply cultural competence and nuanced decisions to components of a diversity audit
- Assess existing diversity audit tools for applications in library settings
- Create a diversity audit tool that is unique to your current or desired collection
Course Audience: This class is ideal for new or experienced collection development professionals and any library professional interested in learning to incorporate inclusive practices into their library space.

Instructor
Caitlin Tobin is a PhD student at the UW- Madison iSchool, specializing in Representations of Disability in Picturebooks and Library Collections. She has experience in creating diversity assessment tools for public libraries and is passionate about helping librarians create collections that are representative of the communities they serve. Caitlin is also passionate about Intellectual Freedom, board books, and universal design in library spaces.
