Andrew Medlar (@ammlib) is Director of BookOps, responsible for the collaborative collection development, technical services, and materials distribution for the 150 locations of The New York Public Library and Brooklyn Public Library. Earlier he served as Assistant Chief for Technology, Content, & Innovation at Chicago Public Library where he began as a children’s librarian before twelve years as the Youth Materials Specialist. Andrew served as the 2015-16 president of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), focusing on strategic planning, media mentorship, and diversity, and under his leadership ALSC received the American Library Association Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Round Table Award for Political Activism. He also served as president of the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers’ Book Award, was named Librarian of the Year by the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade and the Spanish Association of Publishers Guild, and recently received the Illinois Library Association’s Davis Cup for “outstanding contributions in library service to young people.”
Dr. Sarah Park Dahlen (@readingspark) is an associate professor in the MLIS Program at St. Catherine University. She is currently serving on the ALSC 2018-2019 Nominating and Leadership Development Committee, and has previously served on the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature committee and the Jane Addams Children’s Book Award committee. She co-edited Diversity in Youth Literature with Jamie Campbell Naidoo, and co-founded and co-edits Research on Diversity in Youth Literature with Gabrielle Halko. Her next books address race in the wizarding world with Ebony Elizabeth Thomas and Asian American youth literature with Paul Lai.
