Welcome to Brendan Casey, the new Director of Experiential Learning, who joined the iSchool in December.

In his role, he works to secure internships and other experiential opportunities for students. “This includes everything from generating opportunities by tapping into 20 years of government and industry connections, to portfolio reviews, mock interviewing, and industry-specific coaching.” When asked what his goals are for his new position, he says, “Aside from building meaningful industry and public sector partnerships within and for our programs, the obvious goal is to develop a cycle of well-placed alumni who engage with our students. Those students then go on to become well-placed alumni who engage with our students, and so on.”

Casey’s favorite part about his job is working with all of the students! He believes in the Wisconsin Idea and hopes to create meaningful connections with students to continue the cycle of producing outstanding iSchool alumni who can share their knowledge and expertise with others.

Before joining the iSchool, Casey was the managing director at digiCOMM Consulting and vice president at the Connected TV Marketing Association. He brings a strong background in UX, content consumption, media targeting, and digital communities. Additionally, Casey holds a PhD in Social Science from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, where his work was fully funded by the National Science Foundation and he has research experience in uncovering leadership within self-organizing virtual teams, information security policy, social network analysis, natural language processing, interactive television, sports telemetry, and more.

We are excited to expand experiential learning opportunities for students in the iSchool and know that with Casey at the helm, we are in great hands.
