Information School Associate Professor Jodi Schneider has been appointed a founding member of the LeapSpace Advisory Board, a five-member international board that will help shape how one of the largest scholarly publishers builds its AI research tool. Schneider is the only U.S.-based member of the advisory board.
LeapSpace, developed by academic publisher Elsevier, is a research-grade AI workspace designed to support researchers across their workflow in tasks like exploring and comparing literature, generating research reports, and more. It draws on peer-reviewed content from more than 1,500 scholarly publishers and societies. The advisory board will provide external guidance on the algorithms and content standards behind the platform.
“LeapSpace will need independent quality assurance,” Schneider said. “AI tools for reading and summarizing papers seem to be everywhere. But are they helping science? There’s no checklist for what makes AI ready for science, which makes this a really interesting time for people like me to be in touch with product development teams.”

Schneider brings expertise in information quality and scientific integrity to the LeapSpace Advisory Board. Her research examines how scientific evidence is used and how it affects decisions, with the goal of informing public policy with the best available science. Since joining the iSchool in 2025, she has continued a line of research on the ongoing citation of retracted studies. Schneider has also worked with the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) on recommendations for how retractions are communicated, and those recommendations have been cited by the Committee on Publication Ethics. She also serves on a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee on corrections and retractions.
Congratulations to Jodi Schneider on her appointment to the LeapSpace Advisory Board!
