An important factor in library planning is understanding your community. Surveys are a great starting point in strategic marketing research to help infuse actual community feedback into your library initiatives. This is an approachable yet significant way to determine what your members think about services, what is essential to them, and what could be improved.
This introduction course provides a comprehensive look at all stages of survey campaigns. Starting with establishing goals and an environmental scan, then the design and implementation of a survey, data analysis, and reporting, and concludes with post-report communications and user research. Course materials include templates, examples from successful campaigns from public and academic libraries, and exercises that will provide students with a survey plan ready to implement.
Topics:
- Establishing Goals, Environmental Scan
- Survey Design and Implementation
- Data Analysis and Reporting
- Advocating change, and next steps
